29. Formulas (IF, VLOOKUP, …)
29.1. Formulas
Calculations and math operations can be carried out by formulas, similar to what you are probably
already know from Microsoft Excel .
As you certainly remember, we already worked more or less with formulas further up (IF, AND, etc.).
Just as a reminder, one of the formulas was: =IF([slack time]@row < 0, 1, 0)
Then we had already discussed a second formula. Just as a reminder again, that formula was:
=IF([Slack Time]@row > 5, "Green", IF(AND([Slack Time]@row < 5, [Slack Time]@row > 0), "Yellow",
IF([Slack Time]@row < 0, "Red")))
It looks complicated, but it isn't, if you know what the function does and how the terms and arguments
are involved. Recently we mainly worked with the function IF, which we boxed / nested a few times.
Usually, formulas use functions, or call them "command words", that perform a specific calculation.
However, as already mentioned further up about Country Settings, functions in Smartsheet are gener-
ally always in English, e.g., what is a WENN in German, then this is still an IF in Smartsheet, no matter
which language setting you have chosen.
